Q:How long will I be out of school or work?
A: It all depends on the type of surgery usually no more than 3 days, but we will review that on a patient to patient basis.
Q: Why am I more swollen on one side of my face than I am the other side and how long will it last?
A: The extraction site(s) may be more difficult on one side than it is on the other. The swelling expands over the first three days and then will decrease rapidly.
Q: How long will the bleeding continue?
A: The bleeding will occur off and on anywhere from 24- 48 hours. Dry tea bags will slow down the bleeding dramatically.
Q: The pain medication that I was prescribed in not helping, what should I do?
A: You may take 600mg of Ibuprofen, Advil, or Motrin and mix it with the pain medication. This will help the pain medication last longer and it will also help with the inflammation.
Q: I finished all my pain medicatio and I am still having pain, what now?
A: You may take 800mg fo Ibuprofen, Advil or Motrin. If the pain does not minimize, call our office.
Q: When and what can I eat after surgery?
A: You may eat or drink as soon as your would like. Expect to be on a soft food diet for several days. Eg:Soups, ice cream, mash potatoes. The only foods that are not recommended are hot and spicy foods for the first 48 hours. Also stay away from crunchy foods (popcorn, peanuts, potato chips) for the first 7 -10 days after surgery.
Q: When can I start back to extracurricular activities?
A: Normally it is around 5-7 days after surgery. Every patient's surgery is different, so check with the doctor on the day of surgery.
Q: Why does it feel like I am biting my cheek after surgery?
A: This is due to swelling. After a couple of days when the swelling decreases, the problem will subside.
Q: How long will it be before the stitches come out?
A: The stitches will be removed by doctor at the post operative appoint that is usually done one week after surgery.
Q: Do I need to come back for a follow up visit?
A: You need to come back if requested by the doctor, or if there is a problem.
